MARILYN MEURET
WOOD SCULPTOR – CUSTOM PICTURE FRAMER
Born in Wilder, Idaho, Marilyn Meuret grew up on a ranch near
Madras, Oregon. She took her art training at Central Oregon
Community College in drawing, oils and watercolor and metal
sculpture training at Western Wyoming University. Marilyn has
acquired many skills on her own over the years, including wood
carving, jewelry making, macramé and ink drawing.
Since early childhood Marilyn has always had the desire to create
things with her hands. In High School she learned mechanical
drawing, leather work and fly tying, and continuing with more
drawing, watercolor, and oil painting in college. After getting
married and having three children, in 1970 she found the one medium
that has fascinated her most, wood carving. In 1976 she took metal
sculpture, using the lost wax process. She now combines all the
knowledge acquired in the other medias to enhance her carved pieces.
Marilyn has lived in various parts of the west over the years. Now
has her home in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. She uses a contemporary
approach to western art in both oil painting and wood sculpture. She
was awarded first place in oils in the professional division of the
Pendleton Arts Festival in 1976. She has been accepted in numerous
juried shows over the years for her oil paintings, including the
first International Society of Artists Juried Art Show in New York,
NY, 1978, was awarded first place in oils and Purchasers Award in
the Rock Springs National Art Show, Rock Springs, WY, 1978. She was
accepted in the Allied Arts Association Juried Show, Richland, WA in
1979 and 1980 and also the Beaux Arts Juried Show in 1980. She was
accepted in 1995 for two wood carvings in the Allied Arts
Association’s Summer Celebration Juried Show. Marilyn continues her
exploration of new ideas, techniques and methods and receives new
inspiration daily in the “Land of Enchantment”, New Mexico.
Marilyn is currently a member of the National Wood Carvers
Association, the Meadowlark Wood Carvers and the Rio Rancho Art
Association. She was a member of the International Society of
Artists and the National League of American Pen Women, Yakima, WA
Branch, during her oil painting years.
She has a side business of custom picture framing called Meuret
Innovations, framing all sorts of art work including blocking and
stretching needle work.
Most of her time is spent carving pieces out of all kinds of wood,
including Coconut Palm, pine knots and the insides of golf balls.
